Itinerary

DAY 1 - Friday 13th May

Holyhead – Llandrindod Wells –             daily mileage 170 mls / 274kms

07.00hrs        Check-in Irish Ferries Terminal 1 North Wall

08.05hrs        Depart Dublin on Irish Ferries Ulysses

11.30hrs        Arrive Holyhead

Travelling East on the A5 we cross Anglesey briefly joining the A55 at the Britannia Bridge before we re-join the A5 on the way to Betws-y-Coed and on to the Slate Caverns at LLechwedd.

LLechwedd Slate Caverns – Descend nearly 500 feet underground in Europe’s steepest mining cable railway and discover the world of the Welsh Slate Miner during the late nineteenth Century. Meet “Sion Dolgarregddu” – the ghost of a young miner, and your guide through the Deep Mine. Sion was born in 1844 and was only 12 years old when he came to work at Llechwedd, with his father and uncle, in the vast chambers you will see during the tour. Follow Sion as he leads you through winding tunnels and 10 giant breathtaking caverns each the size of a cathedral and each dug by hand. Listen to haunting music emerging from the miners underground hut or ‘caban’, – as the story of his life unfolds – and your journey leads you deeper and deeper underground.

15.00hrs        Depart the Caverns and we head for the first of our iconic routes

Trawsfynydd – Bala – 17 mls / 27 kms

A popular road for magazine road tests, with spectacular scenery, a decent surface and some challenging corners – in the heart of North Wales where speeding bikes are far from popular with the local law.  Don’t panic because you can still enjoy this road – just don’t go crazy.  You must ride this road because it’s simply brilliant.

Dolgellau – Aberystwyth – 30 mls / 48kms

The trouble with Wales is there are too many candidates for “Best Road”.  This is another one.  With spectacular alpine-style passes clinging to hills and challenging complexes of bends in tree-shaded valleys, it has everything – including looks. As well as being one of the best roads in Wales, it’s also one of the most scenic.

Aberystwyth – Llandrindod – 46 mls / 75 kms

This is highway engineering as it would be if motorcyclists were in charge. A main road that thinks it’s a B road.  Never mind the need to link the West Wales coast with the rest of the country – let’s have some proper corners

19.00hrs        Dinner at the Hotel

DAY 2 - Saturday 14th May

Llandrindod Wells  – Llandrindod Wells     daily mileage 280 mls / 450 kms

08.00hrs        Breakfast

09.00hrs        We start the day by completing the “365” road to Landovery.the UK’s smallest City, over the Black Mountain and past Pendine Sands, the home of Britian’s speed records.

Our coastal route takes us through Llanelli, Carmarthen, Haverdfordwest, St Davids, before swinging north-west through Fishguard, Cardigan, and New Quay before swinging inland for our hotel

  19.00hrs     Dinner at the Hotel

DAY 3 - Sunday 15th May

Llandrindod Wells  – Holyhead               daily mileage  155mls / 249kms

08.00hrs        Breakfast

09.00hrs        Check-out and depart hotel

Llandrindod Wells – Devils Bridge & Falls via Elan Valley – 37mls / 60kms

The dams and reservoirs of the Elan Estate are situated within an area of outstanding scenic beauty. They provide a lasting amenity in their own right for visitors to enjoy.  The protection of the water catchment to prevent pollution of the reservoirs has safeguarded the habitats of numerous species of flora and fauna.  However, it should be remembered that the dams were built to provide for a very basic need….water for the people of Birmingham.

Devils Bridge Falls is a world famous tourist attraction 12 miles from Aberystwyth. These unique waterfalls have attracted many thousands of visitors since the 18th century, including William Wordsworth who wrote about the “Torrent at the Devil’s Bridge”. Today, the Falls Nature Trail provides a unique opportunity to see this great natural feature in the Rheidol Gorge.

Returning to Pembroke via Carmarthen.

13.45hrs        Arrive Pembroke Dock

14.45hrs        Depart Pembroke on Irish Ferries
